The Event
Join us for the Sunderland 10k & Junior Races on Sunday 29 November 2026, in support of Children's Cancer North!
Take on a fast, mostly flat 10k along Sunderland's stunning Roker Seafront, starting and finishing at Pier Point on Marine Walk. This popular route is perfect for PB chasers, first-timers and club runners alike, with fantastic coastal views and a welcoming event atmosphere.
The course begins on closed roads for the opening 5km before joining the seafront promenade, where wide paths and gentle undulations provide ideal conditions for finding your rhythm. A lap of Roker Park adds variety to the route before you head back towards the coast.
The final stretch along Marine Drive offers a memorable finish by the sea, with enthusiastic volunteers, friendly marshals and plenty of encouragement helping you push all the way to the line. Clear signage throughout the course ensures a smooth race-day experience from start to finish.
Junior races take place later in the morning, making it a great day out for runners of all ages and abilities, with families and supporters able to enjoy the event together.
We can't wait to welcome you to the Sunderland 10k & Junior Races.
With RunThrough, you can expect a lively event village and clear guidance from our on-course team. After your run, enjoy food, drink and free finish-line goodies from our partners.
You can add an official event t-shirt to your entry at checkout for more than 30% off. Produced in partnership with RT Kit, it features the event logo on the chest and is the perfect keepsake to celebrate your race. Offering the t-shirt as an optional extra helps us keep entry costs lower for runners who prefer not to include merchandise.
Once you enter, you’ll receive a confirmation email straight away, and full event information will be sent to you closer to race day. We look forward to seeing you on the start line.

It's a mostly flat, fast course with just a little gentle undulation along the way.

Race Day Schedule
There's a bag drop in the Event Village — just follow the signs. Your baggage tag is the strip at the bottom of your race number: tear it off, attach it to your bag and hand it to our bag drop team. To collect your bag after your race, simply show your race number.
Toilets are at the Event Village — follow the signs. Queues build in the final half hour before the start, so go early!
A water station is positioned around the course at approximately 5k, with bottled water available at the finish. We recommend staying hydrated in the lead‑up to the event.
Spectators are more than welcome, and with the junior races following later in the morning it's a great one for the whole family. The Event Village at Pier Point is the heart of the atmosphere, and there's plenty of space along the Roker seafront to cheer runners round.
Accessible viewing areas are available, and our team is on hand to support anyone who may need assistance on arrival.
Race packs are posted to everyone who entered by Sunday 15th November; anyone who entered after that collects theirs at registration on the day. If yours hasn't arrived by the Friday before the race, email info@runthrough.co.uk or collect it at registration.
10k: 07:30–08:30
Juniors: 09:15-10:15
A group warm‑up will take place 15 minutes before the race start. After this, runners will be asked to line up behind the pace boards showing expected finish times, helping everyone to self‑seed safely and smoothly before the start.
There is a 90 minute cut-off on the Sunderland 10k, due to the road closures in place.
If you think you may take longer than this, please email info@runthrough.co.uk before the event so we can advise on the options. We want everyone to finish, and letting us know in advance helps us plan marshal support and manage road closure timings safely.
We will have an official photographer at the event. Please check out our photos page after the race.
Results will be available here immediately after the race.

Sunderland is well connected by public transport and easily accessible on foot. We strongly recommend using public transport due to road closures around the course.
The Tyne and Wear Metro runs to St Peter's, Stadium of Light and Seaburn stations, all around a 15–20 minute walk from the start area.
National rail services run to Sunderland Station, where you can connect to a Metro or local bus to reach Roker Beach.
Local buses run regularly from Sunderland city centre and the surrounding areas to Roker. Some buses may run on diverted routes during the event due to road closures so please check the Go North East or Stagecoach websites for the latest timetables.
The seafront is also easy to reach on foot or by bike via the coastal paths, with designated secure bike parking near the event village.
City‑centre parking is available in several public & private car parks within walking distance of the start/finish area. Due to road closures for the race and the number of runners arriving, please plan to arrive early. In Support Of
Whether it's your first 10K or your fortieth, there's never been a better time to run for something bigger than a PB. Run in support of Children's Cancer North — the official charity partner — or raise for any cause with GiveStar.
We're proud to once again be the official charity partner of the Sunderland 10K as it returns to Roker Seafront in 2026! Join us as part of #TeamCCN and help Children's Cancer North continue to make life better for children and young people with cancer, like Autumn and Gray, right here in the North East. Children's Cancer North is an independent charity with over 40 years of heritage in supporting individuals and families affected by childhood cancer across the North East and Cumbria.
Funding early phase trials and supporting research to make treatments less harsh but more effective. Children's Cancer North funds valuable work being carried out at the Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre in Newcastle, where expert clinical and research teams come together to advance their understanding of how to treat childhood and adolescent cancers.
Families from across the North East and Cumbria travel to the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle for their cancer treatment. Support includes a Parent Pack containing vital non-medical information about life in hospital, and a £250 fund to help with unforeseen costs for newly diagnosed families. The charity also provides family stays to Center Parcs, supports social opportunities for teenage patients, and funds creative activities and play specialists on the wards.
Children's Cancer North hosts a variety of events and campaigns throughout the year including 'Paint The Toon Gold', the 101 Challenge and their flagship fundraising event, the Children's Cancer Run. Together, we can help make life better for children with cancer. We hope that you'll be joining us as part of #TeamCCN at the start line!
